Billionaire Ray Dalio, the founder of the world\u2019s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates, has shared his view on cryptocurrency investing and the future of money. He believes that crypto will be banned by different governments. Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio discussed cryptocurrency regulation and the future of money in an interview with David Rubenstein Thursday.<\/p>\n Dalio currently serves as the Bridgewater Associates chairman and cochief investment officer. His firm\u2019s clients include endowments, governments, foundations, pensions, and sovereign wealth funds.<\/p>\n He was asked, \u201cHow do you foresee crypto impacting the world order?\u201d The Bridgewater chairman replied, \u201cI think it\u2019s interesting,\u201d disclosing that he has \u201ca tiny percentage\u201d of his portfolio in crypto.<\/p>\n He explained: \u201cI wanted to diversify but it\u2019s a very vulnerable incident because they can track who is operating on it. It can be tracked.\u201d He added:<\/p>\n It\u2019ll be outlawed, probably by different governments.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In addition, Dalio opined: \u201cIn terms of its size, it has issues. So I think too much attention is spent on crypto.\u201d<\/p>\n This was not the first time that the Bridgewater boss warned about governments outlawing<\/a> cryptocurrencies. In January, he explained that the government outlawed gold and silver in the past, so they could similarly outlaw bitcoin<\/a>. In September, he said governments could kill bitcoin<\/a> if it becomes \u201creally successful.\u201d<\/p>\n Dalio further shared with Rubenstein:<\/p>\n I think that we are now in an era where we are going to have different types of money.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u201cWe are going to question money as a medium of exchange but it\u2019s also storehold of wealth,\u201d the billionaire noted. \u201cAnd we are going to be questioning what are the right storeholds of wealth in value.\u201d<\/p>\n He concluded: \u201cAnd, you are going to see around the world \u2026 the digital version of that take place in many forms \u2026 [and] You are going to see other forms of that competition \u2026 in the years ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
