Tesla\u2019s action reaffirms Musk\u2019s prior statement that neither he nor Tesla had sold their coins.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Tesla\u2019s Q2 Bitcoin Holdings<\/h2>\n<p>Elon Musk\u2019s Tesla released its second-quarter earnings report Monday. The company\u2019s Q2 unaudited statement of cash flows still shows that the only cryptocurrency purchase made was the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tesla-has-1-5-billion-worth-of-bitcoin-on-its-balance-sheet-plans-to-accept-btc-for-products\/\">$1.5 billion<\/a> <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a> purchase in Q1.<\/p>\n<p>The cash flow statement also shows that the only time Tesla sold its bitcoin was in Q1 for $272 million. Source: Tesla<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>In April, Tesla revealed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that its bitcoin stash was worth <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/teslas-bitcoin-stash-worth-2-5-billion\/\">$2.5 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>$23 Million Bitcoin-Related Impairment<\/h2>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s Q2 earnings report specifically mentions bitcoin once, under the \u201cprofitability\u201d section which highlights items offsetting the company\u2019s operating income, including \u201cbitcoin-related impairment of $23M.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-477369\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-477369 size-full\" title=\"Tesla Reveals Bitcoin Holdings Worth $1.3 Billion in Q2, $23 Million BTC Impairment\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cryptocabaret.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/tesla-q2-profitability.jpg\" alt=\"Tesla Reveals Bitcoin Holdings Worth $1.3 Billion in Q2, $23 Million BTC Impairment\" width=\"1289\" height=\"212\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tesla\u2019s Q2 earnings report. Source: Tesla<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>According to Tesla\u2019s 10-K form filed with the SEC, the company treats digital assets \u201cas indefinite-lived intangible assets in accordance with ASC 350, Intangibles\u2013Goodwill and Other,\u201d elaborating:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The digital assets are initially recorded at cost and are subsequently remeasured on the consolidated balance sheet at cost, net of any impairment losses incurred since acquisition.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe will perform an analysis each quarter to identify impairment. If the carrying value of the digital asset exceeds the fair value based on the lowest price quoted in the active exchanges during the period, we will recognize an impairment loss equal to the difference in the consolidated statement of operations,\u201d the company detailed.<\/p>\n<p><!-- growjs zone placement 31 --> <ins> <ins class=\"growjs-placement\"><\/ins> <\/ins> <!-- end of growjs zone placement --> <\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s financial statements confirm Elon Musk\u2019s previous statements that Tesla had diamond hands and would not sell its bitcoins. Musk said on several occasions that neither <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/elon-musk-owns-bitcoin-has-not-sold-any-tesla-hold-btc-long-term-sold-to-prove-liquidity\/\">he<\/a> nor Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/elon-musk-tesla-has-not-sold-bitcoin\/\">had sold<\/a> any <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla <a href=\"http:\/\/march%20https\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tesla-accepting-bitcoin-elon-musk-btc-payments\/\">started accepting<\/a> <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a> for payments in March but stopped in May. Musk cited <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/elon-musk-tesla-suspended-accepting-bitcoin-environmental-issues\/\">environmental<\/a> issues as the reason and said that Tesla would <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/elon-musk-tesla-resume-accepting-bitcoin-miners-confirm-clean-energy-usage\/\">resume<\/a> accepting bitcoin when miners confirm they are using 50% clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>At the recent<a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/elon-musk-jack-dorsey-cathie-wood-discuss-bitcoin-live-b-word-event\/\"> Bitcoin event<\/a> \u201cB Word,\u201d Musk revealed that he personally owns three cryptocurrencies \u2014 bitcoin, ether, and dogecoin \u2014 while Spacex owns bitcoin. \u201cI might pump but I don\u2019t dump \u2026 I would like to see bitcoin succeed,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cTesla will most likely resume accepting bitcoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What do you think about Tesla\u2019s bitcoin strategy?
