The Panthers is reportedly diverting half of his $13 million salary to the Strike wallet, which converts the payment into bitcoin for Okung.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Russell Okung \u2018Paid in Bitcoin\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Pro football player Russell Okung is now reportedly receiving half of his salary in bitcoin. Okung has been a staunch bitcoin advocate for years and he has been asking to be paid in bitcoin since May 2019. Then he tweeted on Tuesday that he was \u201cPaid in bitcoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-433357 aligncenter\" title=\"Pro Football Star Receives Half of His $13 Million Salary in Bitcoin\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cryptocabaret.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/paid-in-bitcoin.png\" alt=\"Pro Football Star Receives Half of His $13 Million Salary in Bitcoin\" width=\"1000\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cryptocabaret.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/paid-in-bitcoin.png 1000w, https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/paid-in-bitcoin-300x82.png 300w, https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/paid-in-bitcoin-768x209.png 768w, https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/paid-in-bitcoin-696x189.png 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\"><\/p>\n<p>However, Okung is not receiving bitcoin directly from the Panthers but through a third-party payment service called Strike, an application developed by Zap Solutions Inc., which helps people convert any percentage of their paychecks into bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, the Panthers reportedly will pay part of Okung\u2019s $13 million salary to Strike which will then pay Okung in bitcoin. Okung is the Panthers\u2019 highest-paid player for the 2020 season.<\/p>\n<p>Okung\u2019s salary agreement is handled internally by the Panthers, CNBC explained, adding that the National Football League (NFL) and its players\u2019 union were both unaware of Okung\u2019s agreement until Tuesday\u2019s announcement. However, they did not attempt to void or officially sign off on the agreement. An NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told the publication: \u201cThere wasn\u2019t anything to sign off on. The clubs pay the players in US dollars. What the players or his agents do with the money is up to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Okung said in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Money is more than currency; it\u2019s power. The way money is handled from creation to dissemination is part of that power. Getting paid in bitcoin is the first step of opting out of the corrupt, manipulated economy we all inhabit.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><!-- growjs zone placement 31 --> <ins> <ins class=\"growjs-placement\"><\/ins> <\/ins> <!-- end of growjs zone placement --> <\/p>\n<p>The pro football star frequently tweets about bitcoin. \u201cYou can make \u2018x\u2019 a year and watch it slowly erode with inflation or you can protect your hard-earned money with bitcoin,\u201d he wrote after announcing that he was paid in the cryptocurrency. \u201cI\u2019m freeing myself from fiat. You can too.\u201d He elaborated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>When we are all paid in bitcoin, no one can tell us what to do with the value we create \u2026 In a post fiat world, you won\u2019t have to worry about your labor and time being stolen.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Okung further tweeted Tuesday, \u201cIf you think elections are rigged wait until you learn about the US dollar.\u201d In addition, he wrote, \u201cIf 2020 taught us anything, it\u2019s that the world is rapidly changing\u201d and \u201cThe next decade will be about bitcoin\u2019s mass adoption.\u201d In November, the pro athlete tweeted, \u201cI\u2019m irresponsibly long on bitcoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Do you think more pro athletes will want to be paid in bitcoin?
