Over the last two months, a bunch of people have redeemed their Casascius coins and on December 23 someone peeled a 100 <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> ($723K) Casascius bar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Also Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/only-375-days-left-for-mcafees-1m-bitcoin-price-wager\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Only 375 Days Left for McAfee&rsquo;s $1M Bitcoin Price Wager<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>2011-2013 Casascius Coins and Bars Sell for a Premium<\/h2>\n<p>Years ago, people made physical bitcoins and there&rsquo;s been so many manufactured that there&rsquo;s actually an <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/review-encyclopedia-physical-bitcoins-crypto-currencies\/\">encyclopedia<\/a> that covers the subject. These days, however, there&rsquo;s not as many <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/bitcoin-history-part-4-casascius-creates-physical-bitcoins\/\">physical bitcoin<\/a> manufacturers as government regulations have <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/regulations-have-ruined-the-physical-bitcoin-industry\/\">stifled the industry<\/a>. There are definitely a few creators still <a href=\"https:\/\/denarium.com\/\">minting loaded crypto coins,<\/a> but there&rsquo;s nowhere near the number of physical coin makers as there was back in the day. <a href=\"https:\/\/casascius.com\/\">Casascius coins<\/a> are the most popular of all the physical <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> coinage ever created. Unfortunately on November 27, 2013, Caldwell had to suspend sales of all the items he manufactured that contained digital bitcoins. This means all active loaded coins have active Bitcoin Cash (<a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BCH\" target=\"_blank\">BCH<\/a>) as well.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Casascius coins have always been in high demand and many have sold for a premium, well above the amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> held on the metal. For instance, in April 2018, someone created a post on the <a href=\"https:\/\/forum.shiresociety.com\/t\/original-2011-casascius-physical-bitcoin-for-sale-10-000-in-frns\/10731\">shiresociety.com<\/a> forum selling four 2011 Casascius coins for $10K per coin. Each of the coins sold on the website at the time contained a 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> load under the hologram sticker. The price per <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> during the month of April 2018 was around $8k so the seller added a $2K per coin premium. On July 1, 2019, a 2011 mint-condition gold Casascius coin (MS65) that held 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/btcmanager.com\/physical-bitcoin-btc-sold-ebay-100000\/?q=\/physical-bitcoin-btc-sold-ebay-100000\/&amp;\">sold for $99,000<\/a> on eBay. In November 2017, a Casascius physical bitcoin with a hologram error <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointalk.org\/index.php?topic=2486808.0\">was purchased for $50K<\/a> on the online auction site. According to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/casasciustracker.com\/details\/?id=5b610e45a86feb072dcc5b6d\">casasciustracker.com<\/a>, the Casascius S2-BAR-100 held 100 <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/BTC\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a> and was created on February 4, 2013. In fact on Twitter, there&rsquo;s a bot that tracks all the peeled (redeemed) Casascius coins and bars. But there&rsquo;s been plenty of higher denominations redeemed as well and many derive from the series 2 batch.
